november 2016 design challenge

Happy day-after American Thanksgiving!

november16eventcover

In keeping with the theme … the colour palette Dry Gulch Beads has chosen for their creative design challenge this month, is inspired by the vintage Thanksgiving greeting card above. Subtle shades of tassel yellow, artichoke green, whole wheat, chinese red and powder blue make up the palette.

I love the southwest feel to these colours, and have created a lariat/choker necklace showcasing each one!

This design centres around a Czech glass – cornflower blue – peacock lentil bead, with etched lampwork glass beads from Burnt Glass Studio in shades of artichoke and tassel, and then – to round out the design …  some tiny Czech glass seed beads in shades of red, grey/brown and wheat.

A cool thing about this design, is that it can be worn so many different ways … a choker (wrapped multiple times), a lariat necklace, a wrap bracelet, a headband, an armband, an ankle wrap, the possibilities are endless …. a truly versatile piece! (Perfect for festival season!)

October 2016 design challenge

Ooooo … scary! Halloween is just around the corner (how did THAT happen already?!) and  Dry Gulch Beads is once again hosting their creative design challenge – celebrating this month with a wonderful colour palette of October-inspired hues.

I have been working on a brand new collection of mini steampunk-ish mixed-metal book and journal pendant necklaces and am offering the first sneak peek right here with this submission …

A flame-kissed brass blank was used to create the cover of this little sunburst journal – incorporating the fall colours – “Vintage Candy Corn”, “Ichabod’s  Pumpkin”, “Little Black Cat”, “Woo Hoo Witchy Woman” and “the Thriller”, and “Skeletons in the Closet” … for the blank pages inside!

September 2016 design challenge

Is it that time already? We are well into September, so that must mean that it is time for another edition of Dry Gulch Beads‘ monthly design challenge!

This month’s palette contains such beautiful muted, vintage colours …

khaki, honeydew melon, pencil lead, vintage coral and flax

The piece I am submitting is part of a collection I’ve been working on lately – incorporating other artisan’s creations along with my own. In the spirit of vintage/days gone by … this necklace centres around a double sided copper & resin pendant made by Jennifer Tough. It has a different image on the front and back (which – between both sides, contain all of the lovely colours above!), and is paired up with flame kissed copper components and ultra micro fibre suede cord.

August 2016 colour design challenge

End of August … the sunflowers are in full bloom, apples are starting to fall … it’s so hard to believe that the end of summer is already near! Dry Gulch Bead’s august color design palette reflects the gorgeous late summer blooms  with a hint of dreamy dusk light.

Tiger Orange, Sunflower, Buttermilk, Bridgewater and Tiffany Blue are the colour choices to work with this month …August16EventCover

With the end of summer comes a time to start thinking about back-to-school and hitting the books … so in keeping with that theme – something a little different for this month’s design challenge – a lovely lampwork page keeper / bookmark …

July 2016 colour design challenge

Ack! The end of July is almost upon us, and again, cutting it so close … with another last minute submission for Dry Gulch’s colour design challenge.

July16EventCover

This month’s theme revolves around sunny & bright, fresh, summer colours in terracotta, golden sand, lemon meringue, green juice and avocado.

I ended up creating two pieces for this challenge – a necklace, and a bracelet.

The first one is a sweet little owl necklace –  “Spread Your Wings” … a hand stamped and patina’d arte metal tag, with a colourized owl charm, a beautiful etched glass bead in shades of both golden sand and lemon meringue by Burnt Glass Studio, a tiny terracotta czech glass bead, lemon yellow waxed cotton and avocado green leather.

and the second piece is a summery lampwork bead and leather bracelet in the same colours …

Hope you are all having a happy summer!
